Breast Reconstruction in Columbia, SC

If you have recently undergone a mastectomy, you may want to consider a breast reconstruction treatment to restore the fullness of your figure. Dr. Wassermann of Plastic Surgery Consultants offers breast reconstruction treatments to the residents of Richland County, Lexington County, and the nearby South Carolina communities.

What is Breast Reconstruction?

After a mastectomy, or breast removal, women may feel insecure. With breast reconstruction, patients can restore a sense of wholeness and womanhood. By combining advanced surgical techniques with traditional breast implants, women can achieve a full, symmetrical figure. A breast reconstruction can be performed in combination with a mastectomy or after the mastectomy has been performed. It is never too late to undergo breast reconstruction, and Dr. Wassermann of Plastic Surgery Consultants is committed to excellence and personalized, compassionate care.

How Much Does Breast Reconstruction Cost?

The cost of your breast reconstruction will vary depending on your specific treatment goals, but most patient’s insurance will aid in the cost of reconstruction. To determine the exact cost of treatment, we invite you to schedule a personal consultation with Dr. Wassermann. During your consultation, you will work with Dr. Wassermann to develop a personalized treatment plan that will satisfy your unique cosmetic goals. At this point, we will be able to provide you with the full cost of treatment. To help make our treatments accessible to those who need them, we accept a variety of payment options as well as financing.

    How is Breast Reconstruction Performed?

Typically completed in stages, breast reconstruction can be achieved using various techniques. Two of the most common include a skin expansion technique along with a breast implant or a TRAM (transverse rectus abdominis muscle) flap technique, which utilizes skin and soft tissue from the patient’s abdomen to create a new breast mound. A subsequent step includes reconstruction of the nipple and areola. Part of the reconstructive sequence can also include a procedure on the unaffected breast (augmentation, mastopexy, or reduction) in order to ensure excellent symmetry.

What is Recovery Like Following Breast Reconstruction?

Recovery from breast reconstruction is not unlike recovery from breast implants, but it can be a little lengthier depending on the amount of surgery required. Most patients enjoy a speedy recovery with the ability to resume work and other normal activities within one to two weeks. After your treatment, Dr. Wassermann will give you specific instructions regarding recovery and tell you what to expect during this period.
